The Story of Jesus Continues (Acts Survey)
New Book from Dr. Douglas Huffman, Zondervan Academic
The Story Continues: A Survey of the Acts of the Apostles (Douglas Huffman)
Zondervan Academic is the textbook specialist, and this new survey of Acts does not disappointment. Dr. Douglas Huffman (Talbot School of Theology) has produced a thorough examination of Acts, beautifully illustrated and clearly written. At over 600 pages, Huffman’s work covers a lot of ground with a massive introduction of almost 200 pages (covering author, recipient, genre, purpose, literary features, hermeneutical perspectives, and setting).
The main part of the book walks through the text section by section, first Acts 1-12 (“Reaching the Jewish World”), then Acts 13-28 (“Reaching the Gentile World”).
Huffman ends with looking at the lives of the apostles in extra-biblical traditions as well as an examination of the canonical recognition and placement with Acts by the church. This is far more than a basic survey.
Huffman put a ton of work into this textbook and it shows—lots of insightful sidebars with fascinating information. Helpful bibliographies of suggested readings at the end of each section. Ancient art and photographs of relevant archaeological findings. Maps and location photographs.
NB: This book is part of a textbook “survey” series from Zondervan; the whole series is excellent.
Take my money . . .
