This book is kind of a sequel to my 2020 book Paul and the Language of Faith. In ACJ, I make my case for seeing love as the center of Paul’s theology. When I pitched this book to Eerdmans, I noted that love language is prominent and pervasive on all of Paul’s letters and yet few scholars mention it when they talk about Paul’s “theology.” So, this is my contribution to the major Pauline theology debate about the “center” or heart of Paul’s theology.

Pauline scholars have long debated the so-called center of Paul’s theology, focusing on themes like justification by faith, reconciliation, union with Christ, and the apocalyptic triumph of God in Christ. In this innovative study, Nijay Gupta offers a new perspective that emphasizes Paul’s understanding of love at the heart of the gospel he preached.
