Best Books in the Category of Commentaries
This year (2024) was a big year in terms of commentaries. Some difficult choices had to be made regarding what to exclude in my top (3), but the #1 winner is clear…
Congratulation to Steve Walton on the completion of his much-awaited, highly anticipated WBC commentary (first volume). I had a chance to read this in prepublication and I read it nearly cover-to-cover: Walton’s expertise is apparent, and his engaging writing style is much appreciated. This is a must-have for scholars and students.
A close second (runner-up) is the ground-break New Testament in Color, featuring various ethnic minority scholars. We are using this as a textbook at Northern Seminary this year. Thrilled to have our students engage with this. And in third (honorable mention) we have Amy Peeler’s theologically rich Hebrews commentary. She shows incredible dexterity as she blends exegetical, literary, canonical, and theological insights.
Looking forward to reading the new commentaries by Steve Walton and Amy Peeler! Congrats to all!
The Hebrews commentary is on sale at Logos right now.
